This project funded the development and production of five educational videos based on the work carried out through PRG. PRG worked with a Durban-based filming and online education organisation to produce five case studies as detailed below:

• Good Science Makes Good Policy: This case study looks into the successful collaboration between a research institution (PRG, UKZN) and their local municipality (eThekwini). There is a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations and the collaboration has resulted in significant improvements in faecal sludge management in eThekwini.
• Waste to Riches: PRG supported The BioCycle and eThekwini Water and Sanitation to trial a full-scale black soldier fly treatment facility for treating the solid fraction of urine diversion toilet waste. The case study gives an overview of the process and the business model, and the potential opportunities to valorise the by-products of faecal sludge treatment.
• Sanitation for the Future: PRG supported several Gates Foundation grantees to test sanitation technology prototypes in informal settlements, rural homesteads and a primary school in eThekwini. These prototypes aim to provide sustainable non-sewered sanitation. The case study looks at some of the prototypes tested and the process that testing takes.
• Raising People’s Voices: PRG is involved in several social studies in eThekwini to understand what people think of new and existing sanitation technologies and how they engage with sanitation services. This case study gives an overview of the importance of social engagement in field-testing of new technologies, an outline of the methods used to collect this information and some of the interesting findings of surveys carried out to date.
• Safer Sanitation for All: This case study describes the pathogens present in faecal sludge and techniques used to eliminate the risks associated with the exposure to these pathogens when working and carrying out research in the sanitation sector.
