eThekwini water and sanitation Research

Collaborative Partnership

Since 2003, the WASH R&D Centre (as the PRG) has provided eThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit (EWS) with scientific support in their efforts to develop and implement innovative water and sanitation services to the under-served, along with their mission of maintaining cost-competitive waste treatment service to industry and ensuring the health and environmental status of the rivers and beaches. Over the years, Memoranda of Agreements (MOA) have been signed between the two organisations to formalize their collaboration.

The majority of the projects conducted by the WASH R&D Centre have an impact on water and sanitation service delivery in eThekwini, and EWS are key partners in the Centre’s research. We strongly believe in conducting research that can be applied in our own “back yard”.

This page provides information on some of the more recent research support and capacity building provided by the Centre to EWS under the MOA.
