Project summary

The project was based on developing policy and technical training materials including guidelines to provide different sectors with an overview of and awareness of both the ISO 30500 (Non-sewered sanitation systemsprefabricated Integrated treatment units – General Safety ad performance requirement for the design and testing) and ISO 24521 (Activities relating to drinking water and wastewater services – Guidelines for management of basic onsite domestic wastewater services). The training material and training presentations incorporated the overview of the regulations, policies and frameworks and legislations in the department of water and sanitation. It further provided an overview of the sanitation value chain, sanitation technologies, developing and existing non-sewered sanitation technologies. It further highlighted the benefits of adopting each ISO standard. This project was successfully led by the Senior Research Associate Dr Konstantina Velkushanova assisted by the Research Assistants, Eva Marry and Zandile Jingxi.
