Project summary

Methods for Faecal Sludge Analysis–  this project is looking at provision of standardised methods for characterisation and quantification of faecal sludge from onsite sanitation technologies, including health and safety procedures for handling faecal sludge in the form of a book publication. This project is the next step after the development of the Standard Operating Procedures. As a part of this research grant, a database spreadsheet on properties of faecal sludges was developed, using publications on FS properties over the last 5-6 years. This database was developed by Dr Konstantina Velkushanova and Research Assistants Dr. Bhekumuzi Gumbi.  The lead organisation for this project is the Pollution Research Group (PRG) based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), with partner organisations being the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), IHE-Delft and EAWAG/SANDEC as another partner organisation (still TBD). All these organisations are leaders in the field of FS characterisation and quantification.
