Sharon Migeri obtained her BSc in Plant Sciences from the University KwaZulu Natal. She completed her Master’s degree in agriculture (Crop science), with a thesis entitled Human urine and its derived products as potential fertilisers for crop production in 2017.
She is currently working towards her PhD in Crop science focusing on the fate, uptake and distribution of pharmaceuticals in human urine derived fertilisers in soil-crop systems at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Project title: Pharmaceuticals in human urine fertilisers; Implications to soils and crops
Project description: The aim of this study is to establish the fate, distribution and uptake of pharmaceutical from a range of urine derived fertilisers in soil-plant systems within the South African context. The study will focus on the urine derived fertilisers from the sanitation technologies in eThekwini municipality. These include struvite, nitrified urine, stored urine and struvite effluent.
