Biography

Dr. Otieno’s experience spans extensive research on water and wastewater management, renewable energy, and green economy. His work at WASH focuses on resource-oriented wastewater treatment particularly sludge management for bioresource recovery including biogas for energy production, water for reuse, and compost for crop production. Other projects that he is involved in include decentralised wastewater treatment systems (DEWATS) employing nature-based solutions (NBS), faecal sludge treatment using solar dryers, biochar production from waste biomass, agricultural field trials, and monitoring and treatment of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs). He plans to advance progress on the adaptation to climate change, achieve ‘net-zero’ energy processes and green economies, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
